Eat, Drink and Be Merry

Parker’s party went off on Saturday without a hitch. The food was good, the drinks were even better, and we had nice time celebrating with everyone that made it out for the big partay!

In an effort to avoid picture overload I’ll be breaking down the days events into a series of posts. Up first—the eats!

The Very Hungry Caterpillar would have approved of the menu--it was right in line with the VHC theme. We had strawberry and grape caterpillar fruit skewers, a fruit tray with the caterpillar fruit served with fruit dip, a caterpillar cupcake/cake and a butterfly smash cake. Parker LOVES the butterfly at the end of the book. She breaks out in a huge smile every single time I turn to that final page so of course I had to make a butterfly cake for her! I was up late the night before whipping up all the desserts but it was well worth it! Parker’s butterfly cake was vanilla funfetti decorated with vanilla buttercream, the cupcakes were a mix of vanilla funfetti and chocolate filled with marshmallow cream, both topped with vanilla buttercream and sprinkles, and the caterpillar head was chocolate with fondant. It was my first try at fondant and I’m very pleased with the results! I can’t wait to try some more detailed fondant cakes in the future.

We broke in the amazing bar that Kris built single handedly with wine, margs, strawberry lemonade, and pitchers of beer. The margs flew off the shelf! Next time we’ll remember to double, or maybe triple, the amount we serve!

I forgot to snap pictures of the lunch, but it was a make your own taco bar with Spanish rice, chips and salsa. I figured that was the best option so that the guests could pick and choose their toppings. It was most delicious!

Up next: the party princess!
